5.0 out of 5 stars Not a "drug diversion"--a case of two distributers, June 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Heliocare Oral Capsules (60 capsules) (Health and Beauty)
I've been doing a lot of research on Heliocare and have discovered that there are three different companies selling products by the brand name "Heliocare"--Douglas Pharmaceuticals out of New Zealand, Biopelle out of the US, and IFC out of Spain.

Through much research, I discovered that IFC is the manufacturer of this product. Biopelle just got clearance in February 2010 to exclusively distribute and market IFC's product to the US. The Douglas product (shown here)is the distributer in New Zealand.

To tell them apart, the Douglas product has the circle with the curved line underneath. (This is the IFC logo, so we know they are an authorized, legitimate distributer or there would be a serious copyright lawsuit in progress.) The Biopelle product has a fern on the packaging.

I hope my research has helped clear up any confusion. I am planning to purchase this product, but wanted to make sure that it wasn't a dangerous knockoff or otherwise unauthorized... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I get SUN POISONING - arrgh!, May 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Heliocare Oral Capsules (60 capsules) (Health and Beauty)
I have what's commonly called "sun poisoning" or solar urticaria. Sunlight causes chemical changes in the epidermis. I'm allergic to one of the common chemicals produced and so I end up with a rash wherever the sun hits me, mostly my arms, the back of my hands, my forehead and my neck. It's terribly uncomfortable. I itch like crazy. I've been to several doctors and most of them scratch their heads and recommend Benadryl or some other allergy medication. But those medications didn't work and they sapped me of my energy.

So I did a little research. I read about a New Zealand dermatologist, who, having heard that one of the local maori inhabitants used a native fern to treat various skin complaints, tried it on some of his own patients with chronic problems. He was delighted with the results and recommended clinical testing. The Germans and a couple other countries have since done some studies and they, too, were impressed with the results. I was desperate enough to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Must Have Supplement To Prevent Sun Damage, March 6, 2011
This review is from: Heliocare Oral Capsules (60 capsules) (Health and Beauty)
Other than on my face, I kind of hate putting on sunblock on my body because usually I would have already put on moisturizer and I just don't like the hassle that comes with dealing with two kinds of lotions in a day. Sure there are moisturizers with built in sunblock out in the market, but most of them don't work as a standalone moisturizer or sunblock, or they would smell funny/be too greasy. So when my dermatologist introduced these pills to me, I was estatic.

I've been using Heliocare's facial sunblock moisturizers for years and it's better than anything out there in the market. The company had already emphasized the importance of both UVA/UVB protection waaaay before all the departments store brands had marketed their UVB products. And the very fine texture of the face lotion doesn't aggravate my oily skin. In fact, I find it soothing.

According to my dermatologist this product triples the skin's natural resistance from the sun and protects areas where it... Read more
